I was inspired to make this photo after a viewing a B&W exhibit of Jay Dusard a master photographer and printer. all the photos were large portraits of cowboys and Westerns the size and detail left me empty with the need for some creative exploration. the day was a smoke filled late afternoon on the outskirts of town (cattle country.) i went exploring shooting cattle chutes, fence lines, grasses, roads, and tree trunks. the haze in the sky is smoke which in my opinion helped pull out more of the detail in the tree trunk and create a more make believe or mythical image. i have printed this several times, but the next i think i will go big. Thanks Jay for being an inspiration.
